FUQUAY VARINA, N.C. (WTVD) -- Durham resident Kenneth Glasglow drove down to the Fuquay Meat Market immediately after a post on social media caught his eye. The store was selling five packs of meat for $19.99.
"This is God-sent at a time like this, you know?" Glasglow said. "I came for the five for $19.99 special that I saw on TikTok. I got chicken, breakfast food, steaks, ribs, you name it, they have it. It's all for a mix and match for $19.99, which you can't beat in today's economy."
Data shows that in April, consumer prices rose 2.3%, compared to this time last year. Many people, including Glasglow, are feeling it.
"Prices of food, eggs, everything going up," he said. " I've got four boys, and I got two in college. So you know they eat."
ABC11 headed to Raleigh to speak with the store's owner, Israel Romero. He and his brothers also own Interfood 3 Hermanos, another grocery store along Raleigh's Capital Boulevard. The deals there were five for $24.99.
"It's $24.99, but it's the same five trays. It's not less meat. It's more meat on the trays. It's beef, pork, and chicken here. Over there at the Fuquay Meat Market, it's just chicken and pork," said Romero.
ABC11 asked Romero where the meat comes from and how he generates a profit if he plans to keep this deal in place for the rest of the year.
"It comes from different places, like here in the U.S., from Mexico to Brazil. We try to get the best from each company," he said. "We're making less money, but because we're getting a lot of customers, we're getting more business. "

Romero said the family started an Interfood grocery store in Garner 10 years ago, before expanding to the Fuquay Meat Market on West Vance Street five years ago, and the Interfood location in Raleigh just opened two weeks ago.
"We know people like it and that's why we're giving it to the people," he said.
People like shopper Tenean Jones traveled to shop at this location. It was her first time there, and she said it won't be her last.
"Can't beat that, I'm sorry," she said. "Wherever you can find a deal, I say find it."

Foundry Commercial is pleased to announce the successful sale of a nearly 40-acre infill, industrial site along the Highway 55 corridor in Fuquay-Varina, N.C. Foundry Partners Jim Allaire, Sarah Godwin, and Karl Hudson, IV, CCIM represented the seller in the transaction. The buyer, Chicago-based Stotan Industrial, will deliver approximately 487,200 square feet of small-bay industrial space across three new buildings. Stotan anticipates the project will be delivered Q2 2026.
This marks Stotan Industrial’s first project in the Raleigh-Durham region and introduces the first large-scale, institutionally designed industrial development in Fuquay-Varina in decades. The project is conceptually planned to offer a mix of warehouse and flexible-use space to serve service-oriented and last-mile users seeking in-town industrial solutions.
“This project is particularly exciting because it caters to an in-town, service-oriented industrial user base, filling a real gap in the market,” said Godwin. “It’s also unique in that it’s the first development of this scale and institutional quality to come to Fuquay-Varina, especially in today’s climate. The timing and location are ideal.”
Situated on one of the last remaining vacant parcels in Fuquay-Varina with in-place heavy industrial zoning, the property offers unmatched flexibility and scalability for a variety of industrial uses. Its location in the high-growth southwest Wake County corridor—linking Research Triangle Park to Cary, Apex, and Holly Springs—positions it squarely in the path of robust regional expansion.
The property benefits from direct access to Highway 55 and proximity to major routes including Highway 540 and U.S. 401. As a designated Brownfields site, it also comes with significant development incentives and reduced real estate taxes, further enhancing the project’s long-term value.
The Southwest Wake submarket is one of the Triangle’s fastest-growing industrial hubs, with more than 1 million square feet of space currently under construction and asking rents that have climbed over 10% year-over-year. Foundry Commercial continues to play a leading role in advancing industrial development across the region through its land services platform and long-standing relationships with both institutional and local stakeholders.

A daytime restaurant known for brunch food is expanding in the Triangle.
Longtime Fuquay-Varina residents Larry and Rhonda Terhune are the franchise owners of the new Famous Toastery, a Charlotte-based chain offering breakfast, lunch and brunch.
“We’ve always loved brunch — it’s where families gather, where conversations happen, and where community builds,” Larry Terhune said in a news release. “After seeing how crowded local spots were, we knew Fuquay-Varina was ready for something new. When we discovered Famous Toastery, it just clicked. It offered everything that makes brunch special, and we’re excited to bring that experience home to our neighbors.”
Fuquay-Varina is one of North Carolina’s fastest-growing towns. Its population grew about 28%, to 43,817, from 2020 to 2023, according to U.S. Census data. New mixed-use projects are underway there, and the town is getting its first Target, one of the anchor tenants of the Gold Leaf Crossing shopping center.
The restaurant, slated to open Tuesday, May 27 at 612 Lakestone Commons Ave. will be the second Famous Toastery in the Triangle. Fuquay-Varina’s Famous Toastery will be the first for the brand to offer a “refreshed look,” including a redesigned interior and updated menu.
Franchise owner Larry Terhune spent more than four decades leading and managing software teams, and has also worked as a DJ and held a general contractor’s license building homes. Rhonda Terhune had a career in tech, focusing on the development and assembly of electronic and mechanical systems.
The other Famous Toastery in the Triangle is located at 316 Colonades Way in Cary’s Waverly Place shopping center. It opened in 2014 under the name Toast Cafe, The News & Observer previously reported.
There used to be Famous Toastery restaurants in Morrisville, Garner and Holly Springs, but those locations all closed in July 2019.
With the Fuquay-Varina location, the Charlotte-based chain founded in 2005 has 25 locations across the Carolinas and Virginia, its website shows.
Famous Toastery’s parent company is Won Life Brands, which also owns brands such as the nut butter company Abby’s Better and Flour Power Cooking Studios.
Open for breakfast, lunch and brunch, Famous Toastery serves morning favorites such as omelets, flapjacks, waffles, stuffed French toast and benedicts, and gluten-free options are available.
The menu also features sandwiches, wraps and salads.
Customers can sip specialty coffees and cocktails such as mimosas, margarita flights, bloody marys and Irish coffees.
Famous Toastery will be open 7 a.m.-3 p.m. daily starting May 27.

A North Carolina-based company will operate about two dozen Big Lots stores in North Carolina, including one in the Triangle.
Variety Wholesalers, which operates brands including Roses, Roses Express, Super 10 and Maxway stores, was previously expected to acquire about 200 U.S. Big Lots stores and operate them under the Big Lots brand, The News & Observer previously reported. The deal was part of a sale agreement with Gordon Brothers Retail Partners.
Three of those 200 locations were in Selma, Wake Forest and Fuquay-Varina.
However, landlords of several properties that could have been acquired filed objections to the assumptions or assignments of subleases to Variety Wholesalers.
For example, Food Lion is the landlord of the Big Lots location at 12295 Capital Blvd. in Wake Forest, and filed an objection.
A court document filed Thursday, Feb. 27 authorized Big Lots to assume, assign and sell 118 leases to Variety Wholesalers.
Only one Big Lots location in the Triangle was included in the list of 118 stores to be acquired.
Elsewhere in North Carolina, Variety Wholesalers will acquire two dozen other Big Lots stores:
Landlords of some Big Lots locations are still negotiating, leaving the fate of the stores unknown.
Several Big Lots stores in the Triangle were being auctioned. Those include locations in:
As of Thursday, March 6, Big Lots’ website showed an “all stores closing” message.
